TALLENT, Gladys Lucille Norman, age 86 of Maryville, passed away Monday, December 5, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born March 10, 1919, in Knoxville, and was the eldest of six daughters born to the late Luther and Bertha Norman of Knoxville. Gladys was born and raised in the Lonsdale neighborhood in Knoxville. In the 1930's and early 1940's, she was employed at the Appalachian and Standard Knitting Mills in Knoxville. Gladys and her late husband, Ray Tallent, were married on June 21, 1941. During World War II, she was employed in a Defense Plant in California during the time that Ray was stationed there with the U. S. Army. Gladys was a member of East Maryville Baptist Church for over 53 years. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and worked in hospitality ministry for bereaved families for many years. In addition to her husband, and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Norman and four sisters, Virginia Cate, Reba Atkins, Inez Brown, and Nancy Beeler all of Knoxville. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kathy Tallent of Seymour and Ronnie and Ann Tallent of Maryville; granddaughter, Kristine Tallent of Duluth, GA and grandson, Brad Tallent of Aurora, CO; brother, Howell Norman of Port St. Lucie, FL; sister, Helen Webber of Knoxville; 26 nieces and nephews; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; special friends, Audrey Heckert, Debbie Teffeteller, Ira and Edna Foust, Clifford and Edith Carroll and family and Mark Wheeler and family. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Chapel with Rev. Keith Johnson, Rev. David Webster and Rev. J. C. Reed officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. The family would like to say special thanks to all who have prayed, visited, sent cards and called during the years of Glady’s illness.
