DELOZIER, Gladys Irene Livesay, age 96 of Maryville, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007, at MorningView Transitional Care, following a short illness and a long, fulfilled life. Gladys enjoyed friends and family and was always interested in others. She was a long time member of Maryville First United Methodist Church. She was born in Rogersville on August 2, 1910, the third child of Milem and Minnie Belle Davis Livesay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul I. DeLozier; sisters, Margaret Knouse, Una Courtney, Mary Brown Nash and Pauline (Polly) Anderson. Upon graduating from Carson Newman College, Gladys moved to Maryville and married Paul I. DeLozier. Gladys taught school for over 40 years, beginning her teaching career at the old Bassel School, and ending her career teaching fifth grade at Sam Houston Elementary. She retired in 1976. She especially enjoyed instructing many students on the appreciation of the mountains at Tremont Environmental Camp. Gladys stayed active. She enjoyed gardening, mowing her own yard, sports, especially watching the Braves, having her hair done on Thursdays, sharing stories, feeding the birds, and visits from friends and relatives. An avid bowler until the age of 90, she attended state and national bowling tournaments. She was registered for the state tournament when a broken hip in February 2001 ended her participation but not her interest. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Paul and Patricia DeLozier; grandson, Paul Aaron DeLozier and his fiancé, Jordan Williams. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, and many good friends and neighbors who were a great joy to her. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff at MorningView for their care and kindness. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating.
