Gertrude Moore Carpenter went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital as a result of a fall and heart attack. A resident of Asbury Retirement Center, she enjoyed crafts, rook and bingo with many dear friends. Her family was early settlers in Middlesettlements and Miser’s Station. She was a 1937 graduate of Friendsville High School, a member of the district championship basketball team and an avid Lady Vols fan. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and Naomi Circle. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ralph Carpenter; parents, Grinnell and Gertrude Miser Moore; sisters, Jessie Morton, Tillie Anderson, Kittie Quillen and Edith Moore. She will be sadly missed by son and wife, David and Sandra Carpenter of Ooltewah, TN; grandsons, Nathan and wife Jamie Carpenter of Ooltewah, TN, Aaron Carpenter, U. S. Navy Seabees. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard D. Mullan officiating. The interment will follow in Middlesettlements Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 2201 E. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37804.
