Gerald Clinton Thompson, age 76 of Maryville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 15, 2023. He was a deacon of Laurel Bank Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 28 years and was a Vietnam Veteran with the U.S. Army. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julia Thompson; mother and father-in-law Willard and Helen Benson, sons Joel and Tony Thompson; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Janet Hunt; great nephew Dylan Bell. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years Carolyn Thompson; son Richard Thompson; grandsons Mickey Thompson and Jake Pennington; great-grandson Logan Pennington. Brother and sister-in-law Richard and Patricia Thompson, Betty and Jerry Holden, Bill and Rhonda Benson. Nieces Kim Rosson, Kristi Hayes, Jodi Wright and husband Wendell, Keri Bell, Dana Miller and husband Carl, Tammy Breeden and husband Mike, Lacey Jenkins, Jennifer Kirkland, and husband Chad; nephew Taylor Benson and wife Camille. Great-nieces and nephews Autumn and Caleb Miller, Alayna Wright, Casi and Madi Bell, Alivia and Ashland Kirkland, Hattie Benson, Abby Harp; bonus grandchildren Eli and Molly Jenkins, Katie and Brady Breeden. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Laurel Bank Baptist Church with Rev. Jim "Tater" Wells and Dr. Matthew Young officiating. The interment will follow in Laurel Bank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday at the Church. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
