George William Ribble

George W. Ribble, age 93, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013. George grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Georgia Institute of Technology. He was in the co-op program while at Tech and this is what brought him to Maryville and his much loved mountains. George has been very active with Broadway United Methodist Church, The Boy Scouts of America and The Kiwanis Club. He was an engineer with Alcoa until his retirement at age 62. Since then he has enjoyed hiking, volunteering, woodworking, gardening and most of all being with his wonderful and loving wife of 69 years. In addition to his wife Mary Jane, he is survived by his son, George W. Ribble, Jr. and Melanie Ribble of Houma, LA; daughter, Carolyn Barnwell and Stan Barnwell of Atlanta, GA. His grandchildren are Alison, Colleen, Jonathan, Sarah and Lesley. He has four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church on Monday, May 6. The family will receive friends from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Chapel and the service will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
