George Frederick Schwebel

November 2, 1950 — August 22, 2020

George Frederick Schwebel, age 69, passed away surrounded by his family and friends at home on August 22, 2020. He was a Louisiana native, born in Baton Rouge and raised in Amite, but lived in Blount County Tennessee for 20 years. George was a true fan of both the LSU Tigers and the UT Vols and embodied the spirit of each for he was fiercely loyal and protective of his family and friends but also had a heart of gold that embraced the true volunteer spirit because he was always ready to do whatever was needed to be done for his friends and family. George truly lived the spirit of John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.” He was also an avid fisherman and boat captain having worked for decades on tugboats and lived on a houseboat. His passion and love of the water and expertise with boats and fishing was familiar to everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his children Brooke Melane Schwebel Peach and her husband Raymond Dwayne Peach of Louisville, TN and George Garrett Schwebel and his wife Molly Duerr Schwebel of Hot Springs, AR, his brother Thomas Schwebel of Amite, LA, and his grandchildren Abby Elizabeth Smith, Luke David Hadley, and baby girl Schwebel expected in January by Garrett and Molly. George was preceded in death by his parents, Vera Dykes Schwebel and Frederick Schwebel, and sisters, Carol Heisler and Catherine Lalou Voight.

A grave-side service for family and friends will be held at the Sharkey Cemetery in Amite, LA. The date is to be determined.
