George Everett Moretz

March 18, 1925 — January 3, 2008

George Everett Moretz of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away January 3, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital. George was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on March 18th, 1925. A veteran of World War II, George served with the 82nd Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge. He served as a deacon, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Maryville and as Scout Leader of Boy Scout Troop 389. A graduate of Auburn University, with a degree in Chemical Engineering, George retired from the Aluminum Company of America after 32 years of service. Along with his love of family, George enjoyed woodworking, and took great delight in sharing his garden with friends and neighbors. George is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elma Nelson Moretz; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Sandy Moretz; Douglas and Pam Moretz. Surviving grandchildren and extended family include: Amanda (Moretz), Jonah, and Tristen Ruddy; Adam Moretz; Celena, Jon and Sienna Simerly; Bruce and Danyal Burns Hillard; Wayne, Linda and Tyler Sawyer; Jon and Ben Sawyer; Brian and Regina Sawyer; Tracey and Shauna Wolfe. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Roy and Wilma Nelson of Milton, Florida; Henry and Mary Nelson, DeFuniak Springs, Florida.. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Anderson officiating. The interment will follow in Clark’s Grove Cemetery.
