George Eugene Handley

HANDLEY, George Eugene, age 77 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Fairpark Healthcare Center. He was born June 20, 1927 in Alcoa to Samuel J. and Essie Gregory Handley. He graduated from Townsend High School and Maryville College and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was a longtime member of St. John United Methodist Church, was co-owner of the former HIR Food Distributor and former owner of Knoxville International Travel Agency. Mr. Handley was a past president of Green Meadow Country Club and Volunteer Sertoma Club of Knoxville, was a past vice-president of Blount County Chamber of Commerce and former member of Maryville Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and husband, Evelyn Gillespie and James A. Gillespie; brother-in-law, Joseph Walter McNiell, Sr. and wife Alberta. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara McNiell Handley; daughter, Kimberley Handley Love; sons and wives, George Bradford and Susan Handley of Morristown and Christopher Eugene and Pat Handley; grandchildren, Dale, Wesley and Kelsey Love and step granddaughter and husband Melissa and Bill Tillery and children, Will and Zach; sister and brother-in-law, Wilma Douglas and Walter Douglas; half-sister and husband, Sandra and Keith Dockery; half-brother and wife, Sam S. and Rita Handley; sister-in-law and husband, Shirley and Don Heatherly; brother-in-law and wife, Stuart P., Jr. and Sarah B. McNiell; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Hensley and Dr. James Baird officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Grandview Mausoleum for an entombment service. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
