MATTHEWS, G. Wilford, age 86, a resident of Morning View Village, Maryville, died Wednesday evening, August 27, 2003, after a lengthy stay at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. He was born in Loudon County in 1916, was a long-time member and faithful supporter of First United Methodist Church of Maryville and Mitchell Sunday School Class and retired from ALCOA after 40 years, 6 months, and three days. He was preceded in death by parents, George and Eva Brook Matthews and sister, Kathryn Matthews. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Pauline Justice Matthews; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Tate Paige of Broadview, Illinois, Peggy and John Griffitts of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Brenda Kaye and Stephen Wright of Powell; five grandchildren, Rhonda Paige of Woodridge, Illinois, Tate Paige, Jr. and wife Jody of Downers Grove, Illinois, Kim and husband Joseph Fouts of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Angie and husband Joseph Armistead of Grayson, Georgia, and Jenny Wright of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Saige, Brynna, and Alexa Armistead and Kate and John Fouts; sister, Rena Huffstettler of Maryville; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Joann Matthews of Alcoa; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and friend to many, and he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. The family extends special thanks to the professionals and staff at Colonial Hills and to friend, Dr. Robert Wilcox of Maryville. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sterling Turner and Dr. Robert Wilcox officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Mausoleum for the entombment service. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. Honorary Pall Bearers are Tate Paige, John Griffitts, Stephen Wright, Tate Paige, Jr., Joseph Fouts, and Joseph Armistead.
