Frederick John Ibbetson, age 92, of Maryville TN, passed away suddenly on March 18th. Born in Detroit MI, he attended Castle Heights Academy and Dearborn High School. Enlisting in the Air Force, he worked in engineering and water purification, reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant. Fred’s subsequent Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from Wayne State University led to his lifelong career as Superintendent of the Ypsilanti MI Department of Water Works. Fred was a member of the Optimist Club, Ypsilanti MI. He was very involved with church activities, volunteering to numerous boards, acting as Treasurer, and singing in choirs, including the Faithful Men of Fairview Church. Fred had unconditional love for everyone and forgave all who offended. He will be remembered for his deep faith, expansive love, and his ability to make friends wherever he went.
Fred was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Marie (Grace Shepard Swenson), his parents: Frederick Alfred and Alice (Oosting) Ibbetson, and brother: Robert Ibbetson. He is survived by children: Bruce (Patricia Kelly) Ibbetson, Michael (Marci) Ibbetson, Marianne (John D’Alessandro) Swenson, Jon E. (Trudi Haddell) Swenson, Jr., Melinda (James) McNutt; special nephew Chris (Patty) Ibbetson; grandchildren: Katie, Kimberly, Jessica, Megan, Brianne, Samantha, Josh and Kristen; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Fairview Church with Rev. Gilbert Harris officiating. The interment will take place at 8:30 a.m., Monday 25, 2023 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery - John Sevier.
