Frederick (Fred) Norman Masters, Jr. passed away peacefully on September 17, 2022, at Brookdale Sandy Springs in Maryville, TN. Fred was born on April 21, 1934, in Webster City, Iowa, a son of the late Frederick Norman Masters and Marion Porter Masters. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Alice Jean Masters Nicholls.
Fred is survived by his former wife, Frances Masters of Jefferson City, TN; his daughters, Sharon Fontaine (Arnold) of State College, PA, Linda Ward of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren, Eric Fontaine (Colleen) of Wyomissing, PA, Elizabeth Fontaine of Pawtucket, RI; and two great grandchildren, Matthew and James Fontaine of Wyomissing, PA.
Fred grew up in the greater Knoxville, TN area. He earned a B.S. in History from the University of Tennessee in 1958 and a M.S. in Library Science from Case Western Reserve in 1961. He was employed by C. H. Dexter in Windsor Locks, CT as the manager of their technical library until his retirement in 1991 after 26 years of service.
In his younger days, Fred enjoyed playing volleyball, baseball, basketball, golf, and tennis. He was an avid sports fan. While living in Granby, CT, he attended many UCONN men’s and women’s basketball games. Upon retirement, he moved to Jefferson City, TN where he was a season ticketholder for UT football and men’s basketball. He followed many UT sports programs. He also enjoyed camping and card games with family and playing bridge with friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, 220 W. Broadway Ave., Maryville, TN.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
