Frank A. Kramer

Frank A. Kramer died on April 21, 2005 in Maryville, Tennessee, where he had recently moved from Pittsburgh, PA in order to live near family members during a period of declining health. He was born in Maryville on October 22, 1924, the son of the late Russell R. and Alice Kramer. Mr. Kramer grew up in Maryville and served in the US army during World War ll. He landed at Omaha Beach on the day after the initial allied assault in Normandy and remained in Europe until the end of the war. He graduated from Maryville College in 1947 and in that same year married the ''love of his life,'' Ruth Lloyd, whom he had met while they were still in high school. He went on to receive a masters degree at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and began his career at the Fairchild Aircraft Company in Oak Ridge. He moved to Benton, Arkansas in 1951 to take a position with the Aluminum Company of America. Mr. Kramer later became the personnel manager at ALCOA's large Warwick Works plant near Evansville, Indiana before moving to the company's Pittsburgh headquarters in 1967. He continued to work for ALCOA until 1989, rising eventually to the position of Vice President for Industrial Relations. He was active in community organizations, an elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA, and a generous supporter of educational and charitable institutions. In 1994, Mr. Kramer received the distinguished alumni citation from Maryville College. He loved to travel and to read history; and he was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. He was also deeply devoted to his family and to his wife, Ruth Lloyd Kramer, who died in 1990. Mr. Kramer was also preceded in death by his brothers R. Arnold Kramer and Jackson C. Kramer. He is survived by his son, Lloyd S. Kramer and daughter-in-law Gwynne Pomeroy of Chapel Hill, NC; his son Wayne R. Kramer and daughter-in-law Sarah Hardrath Kramer of Knoxville, TN; his daughter, Alice Kramer Hood of Philadelphia, P A, and seven grandchildren, Kyle and Renee Kramer; Russell and Reed Kramer; Clifton, Diane, and Jonathan Hood, all of whom he loved dearly. Other survivors include his sister, Emma Jane Kramer White and brother-in-law Lyman White of Northridge, CA; and his brother, Roy Kramer and sister-in-law Sara Jo Kramer of Vonore, TN; sisters-in law Sara Kramer and Margaret Kramer of Knoxville; brothers-in-law, J. Vernon Lloyd of Evansville, IL, Hal B. Floyd of Swathmore, PA; sister-in-law, Louise Lloyd Palm of Cornwall, NY; numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom join in celebrating his long and generous life. A memorial service will be held in the Fine Arts Center at Maryville College on Sunday, April 24 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends after the service at Willard House on the Maryville College Campus. Memorial gifts may be given to the Frank Kramer Fund at Maryville College, 502 E.
