CARTLIDGE, Florence M., age 69 of Maryville, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. When she moved with her husband and children to Maryville in 1966, Florie taught piano for several years. She was also an experienced manager of medical offices and a medical transcriptionist; she served in these capacities for several physicians in the area until her retirement in 1994. One of the first Blount Countians to receive a kidney transplant (in 1973), she was active in the National Kidney Foundation, serving as its president in 1981-82 and as chair of its Patient Services Committee. From 1974-1982, she and various partners performed benefit duo-piano concerts in Tennessee, Georgia and Michigan which raised monies to establish a high blood pressure education program for area schools. She is survived by her husband, Dr. David R. Cartlidge; her son, Daniel of Sarasota, FL; her daughter, Ruth Ann of Frankfort, MI; two grandchildren, Kevin and Christine. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at New Providence Presbyterian Church.
