Florence Elizabeth Brodmerkel Davis Cashman

Florence (Flo) Elizabeth Brodmerkel Davis Cashman, age 90, of Decatur, GA, died October 6, 2006 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Flo was born September 25, 1916 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Kane Brodmerkel. She graduated from Mount Lebanon Township High School in Pittsburgh, PA and studied nursing at Lankenau Hospital where she received her RN in1937. While in nursing school, she played on the women’s basketball team. She practiced nursing for three years. She married her childhood sweetheart George W. Davis, Jr in 1941 and moved to Linthicum Heights, MD where they raised their two daughters and one son. After George’s death in 1964, she studied progressive relaxation therapy in Portland, OR. In 1969 she moved to St. Cloud, FL and taught nutritional and exercise classes to seniors. Florence and her sister Ann lived together in Florida until Ann’s death in 1993. Flo married Harold Cashman in 1997. Harold passed away in 2002. After his death, Flo split her time living in Maryville, TN, Kissimmee, FL, and Decatur, GA. Flo enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, and volunteering at the nursing home at Good Samaritan Village, where she played the keyboard and sang. She loved to play bridge and 500 especially. She was also an avid golfer. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Davis, her sister Anna Mae Brodmerkel, her husband Harold Cashman, and her daughter Janet Davis. Florence is survived by her brother James Brodmerkel and girlfriend Brenda Price, her daughter Carol Blankner and her son Will Davis, and Harold Cashman’s daughter, Judy Cooper. She is also survived by son-in-law Leonard Blankner, daughter-in-law-to-be, Laura Brown and family, six grandchildren and their spouses: Sherrod Blankner and Andy Clason, Abigail Blankner and Anna Box, and Joanna Blankner; Nic Ericson and Tombi Ericson, Bo Davis and girlfriend Charlotte and Abraham Davis; two great grandsons: Peter and Will Clason; one great grand daughter, Moira Ericson; two nephews, Scott Brodmerkel and wife Jan, and Jeff Brodmerkel; one niece, Janet Buchanan and husband Brian Buchanan; two grand-nieces, Sarah and Anna Brodmerkel and two grand-nephews, Nate and Carter Buchanan; sister cousin, Phyllis Ludeman; cousins, Walt and George Remlinger, and Gail Henry; long time friend, Pam Hanke: Harold Cashman's grandchildren, Linda, Susie, Chris, and Gina, and great grandaughter Jessica, and great grandsons, Joe and Ed. There will be a celebration of her life was held, Sunday, October 8, at Highland Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM. Rev. Wendy Neff officiated.
