RENFRO, Evelyn F. passed away Saturday, September 23, 2006 in Maryville at the age of ninety. She and her husband of sixty-six years, James C. (Jim) Renfro, were well known educators in Maryville and Blount County. Evelyn was born in Knoxville to John R. and Flora McCurry Ferguson. She graduated from Knox Central High School in 1934 and from Maryville College in 1938. She was known to many of her friends as “Ferg”. Her teaching career began at Maryville High in 1948 and included stints at Walland High School, Maryville Junior High and the Maryville Schools Attendance office. She retired in 1979. Evelyn was active in several community including Scouts, The Chilhowee Club, Green Meadow Country Club and The Sam Houston School House Guild. She was also an avid hiker, bridge player and gardener. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by son Jim Renfro, Jr. and wife Jolene of Lake Jackson, TX; daughter Lee Ann Renfro Simon and husband Donald of Elkins, WV; and daughter Sarah Renfro Lohr and husband Kent of Cary, NC. She has six grandchildren; Rebecca Renfro Grimes and husband Eric of Northborough, MA; Jim Renfro III and wife Shelly of Denton, TX; John Renfro of Houston, TX; Laura Simon of Elkins, WV; and Meagan Lohr and Jon Lohr of Cary, NC. Her four great grandchildren are Tristan Grimes, Owen Grimes, Collin Renfro and Allison Renfro. Survivors also include cousins Sara Ferguson Woods, Betty Morrison and Walter Felix. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-7:30. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Chapel with Rev. Dan Moore and Rev. Jack Hendricks officiating. The interment will follow the service in Grandview Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Pat and Brent Hardiman and the staff at Asbury Place Maryville for their loving care over the past three years.
