Ervil Russell, age 88, of Maryville, passed away Friday, September 11,2009, at his home. He was born November 1, 1920 in Maryville, TN., the son of Thomas Isaac Russell and Effie (Whitehead) Russell. He married Margaret Blevins, September 14, 1946. He would have celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary, Monday. Ervil was a member of Old Piney Grove Baptist Church and attended Hillcrest Baptist Church. He worked for the Aluminum Company of America for 43 years and during his 43 years of service, never reported for medical care. He was a member of the Alcoa 25 Year Club. Ervil served his country well, how proud we all are. For 42 months he served as a Ranger with Company F 323rd, 81st Infantry in the Asiatic- Pacific Theater. Platoon Sergeant Russell earned three Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowood Star, as well as the Good Conduct Medal and the AP Theater Ribbon. He was an avid sportsman including a skilled hunter and fisherman and loved to hike with his many friends. In 1989, he and his fellow Alcoa retirees hikers were featured on the cover of COMPASS, Tennessee Operations Magazine. He was preceded in death by his parents: Tom and Effie Russell, brothers: Earl and Elmer Russell, sisters: Evelyn Kidd and Joyce Russell. Survivors include: Wife: Margaret Russell, son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Sarah Russell, daughter and son-in-law Brenda Russell Bodemann and husband Harry Bodemann, granddaughters: Christie Russell Milstead and husband Wes Milstead, Andrea Russell and Blakely Bodemann. Great grand children: Emma Milstead, Nicholas and Blake Milstead, Special cousins Lloyd Whitehead and family, Clarence Russell and Family; special friends, Terry and Steve Duncan and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Our Dear Heavenly Father brought home a wonderful father, grandfather, husband and friend. His loving memory and the lessons he taught his family will be with us always. The family will receive friends at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Sunday, September 13th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 13th at 8:00 p.m. at McCammon-Ammons-Click Chapel, Reverends Carl White, Rex Everett and Alvin Patton will be officiating. The interment will be 11:00 a.m. Monday September 14th at Grandview Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity.
