Peery, Ernestine McCulley Our beloved mother, Ernestine McCulley Peery, 92, died Friday, June 13, 2008. Mrs. Peery was born May 18, 1916 in Maryville, TN to Homer and Nellie McCulley. After graduating from Maryville College in 1937, she married Joseph Andrew Peery. With her husband's career in the oil industry, the couple moved often to different areas of the country. Her cheerful outlook on this was that ''there are nice people everywhere you go.'' She fought, and won, a battle against TB in her 20s, and never suffered another major medical condition until old age finally caught up with her. After her health was regained, she and Joe began their family. As a Mother, she raised three children, and by example, set a standard of behavior and self reliance that has sustained each of them throughout their lives. She and Joe were as close to soul mates as there is, and together they made home life a wonderful experience for the entire family. They had 40 happy years together. After Joe's death, Mrs. Peery married Lonie C. Estes, with whom she shared a 14 year marriage. She loved to travel, and did so extensively with both her husbands. She even traveled to Venezuela by herself at age 81 to visit her youngest son. In addition to traveling, Mrs. Peery also was an avid golfer, a fine pianist, and an excellent bridge player. Her granddaughters have many happy memories of playing cards and having popcorn and ice cream with her for dinner. Three years ago, she accepted her daughter's invitation to live with her in her country home in Carlton, TX. Vicki and her husband cared for her until the end - an act of love and consideration that greatly improved her quality of life, and will always be remembered and appreciated by her two sons. Mrs. Peery was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; her brother Bill McCulley; and her infant sister, Marjorie. Survivors: Sons, Michael Peery of Humble,TX and his wife Elaine, and Ken Peery of Spring,TX and his wife Isolina; Daughter, Vicki Taylor of Carlton,TX and her husband, JM; Siblings, Frances Bond, Jane Rogers, JE McCulley, and Patsy McCulley, all of Maryville, and Bobbie Wheeler, of Marion, AL; Granddaughters, Cyndy Miller, Michele Todd, Susan Sanders, and Donna Lockaby of Texas, and Carey Armentrout of Virginia; and twelve great-grandchildren.
