Erma Joan Manning Coffey passed away on March 15, 2025. Erma was born on June 18,1942, to George and Edith Manning in Annapolis, Maryland. She graduated from Friendsville Friends Academy where she met and married the love of her life, John (Johnny) Allen Coffey, Jr. Erma and Johnny were married for over 64 years, setting an amazing example for their two children John and Cynthia.
Erma was an active member of Friendsville Friends Meeting for over 60 years where she often sang in praise of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Erma worked from home as a seamstress until she went to work for the US Postal Service. She worked as a Rural Mail Carrier for more than 26 years. In her retirement years she became very passionate about working with stained glass and created many beautiful pieces that hang in her children’s homes. Erma was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting in her later years.
Erma is proceeded in death by her parents, George and Edith Manning, her father and mother-in-law John A Coffey, Sr and Edwinna Coffey. Her brothers John Paul Manning, Kenneth Irvin Manning, Lloyd Dawn Manning; and sisters, Lyla Manning Hobbs and Judith Manning Young; as well as sisters -in-law and brothers-in-law Mildred (Peggy) Manning, Hattie Manning, Troy Hobbs, Edward Fanjoy, Cliff Vowell and Fred Hensley.
Erma is survived by her husband Johnny, son, John A Coffey, III and wife, Joan; Daughter Cynthia Coffey Steele and husband, Stephen; Grandchildren, Austin Coffey and wife See; Benjamin Coffey and partner Boroka Boisen, and Kristen Coffey; Great grandchildren, Elili and Jayce; as well as sisters Glenna Manning Hensley, Marla Manning Vowell, Lulan Manning Fanjoy, Beverly Manning Grimm, and Vicki Manning Hooker.
Erma loved Jesus and loved her family unconditionally. We take comfort knowing she no longer suffers, and that she is in the arms of Jesus…still, our hearts are broken, and we love and miss her greatly.
The family will receive friends on March 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with the funeral immediately following at McCammon Ammons Click Funeral Home, 220 W Broadway Ave, Maryville, TN 37801. Following the funeral, family and friends are also invited to join the funeral procession traveling to Friendsville Friends Meeting graveyard, 503 West Hill Ave, Friendsville, TN 37737 for a short graveside service and interment. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to give to The Gideons International in Memory of Erma Coffey, at www.gideons.org/donate.
