On Monday April 10th, 2023 the Lord called Ella Mae (Harry) Luce home. She was born on June 16th, 1936 to Harvey E. Harry Jr and Ella Mae (Harry) Lawrence in Berkley, MI.She was adopted, loved, and raised shortly after by her paternal grandparents Harvey E. Harry III & Ethel (Snook) Harry. Ella Mae graduated from Berkely High School in 1954. She worked at the Detroit Newspaper after high school. On December 23rd,1966 she married her late husband of 50 years, Hervey W. Luce. Together they made a life raising their four children. They moved from Michigan to California in the 60's where she created long lasting memories riding dune buggies up and down the Grapevine, making great friends, she experienced wildfires, landslides, and a major earthquake before moving back to Michigan. First to West Branch then they settled in Bentley for many years. Ella Mae filled her days with her kids, sewing, gardening and later caring for her grandchildren. Ella Mae became a Realtor for a brief time. Later she worked at E&L Mobile Homes, staging new models and doing office work. But her greatest career was as a homemaker, mom, grandmother and wife. Later they moved to Sanford, MI then to Whitehall. Before they relocated to Florida where they made themselves at home in Vero Beach for years then later retiring in Fruitland Park, FL. where she lived until 2021 when she made her final move to be near her family in Maryville, TN. Ella Mae embraced every move as an exciting new chapter in life. Ella Mae's legacy carries on with 36 people being born because she lived. Her children 4 children are Debra (William) DuBay of Sterling, MI, Paul (Kimberly) Bidwell of Bay City, MI, Kris Ann Hoff (deceased) & Janet Luce of Florida. Her grandchildren April (Paul) Mech, William Bidwell, Kolena Tolentino, Amanda Bourassa, Kyle (Amanda) Hoff, Joni (Kyle) Palmer, Kristy (Brian) Stone, Andrew (Ashley) Loper, Austin Loper, Derek (Morgan) Dillon and Jacob Bidwell. Along with 21 great grandchildren to carry on her legacy. Ella Mae loved snuggling up with a good book on a rainy day, sewing and being creative, playing with her plants. She loved going on cruises, it was her favorite way to vacation. Ella Mae was adventurous and always up for a road trip. She was sweet, funny and kind to everyone she met. Ella Mae is predeceased by her daughter Kris Ann Hoff & and her husband of 50 years Hervey W. Luce. Ella Mae will be deeply missed. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the nurses and staff that cared for her in her last days at Blount Memorial Hospital.
