Elizabeth M. Betty Tinker, 83, of Maryville passed away on January 8, 2018 of complications from injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Born on April 22, 1934 to the late Edwin Mac McCain and Agnes Hunter McCain, Betty has been a life-long resident of the Maryville/Alcoa area and was a founding and active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Recently retired from the University of Tennessee Presidents Office after 45 years, Betty was well-known and loved by the thousands of Tennesseans who could always count on Ms. Betty. Orange was her favorite color and Betty was a passionate UT fan. Betty was the matriarch of her large extended family. Cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for 20 or more people was a normal holiday. Her banana pudding, chicken salad and potato salad were fabulous and some would say legendary. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life for 56 years, Glenn; her brother and sister-in-law Bill and Barby McCain and her niece Donna Tinker. Betty loved to travel and was always looking for a new adventure. Her children were her world until the birth of her two grandsons. Whether it was cheering for a young Drew playing baseball or Skyler marching in the drumline, there was never a prouder Mimi. Betty is survived by her daughter Sandy Boatwright of Cleveland, TN, her son Rick Tinker (Betsy) of Maryville, her grandsons Drew Tinker (Lauren) of Knoxville and Skyler Boatwright of Cleveland; three brothers, E.H. Hunter McCain (Judy), Tom McCain (Suzy) and Jim McCain (Tina); her sister Florence Shirley and her brother-in-law Garland Tinker (Dorothy). She will also be missed by her 12 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews and even great great nieces and nephews and many cousins. Although she loved them all, Jill Cable and Mike Shirley held a very special place in her heart. Thank you both for everything. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 11 from 5-9 pm at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville with a rosary to follow. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church Friday at 11:30 a.m. with burial following at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are: Mike Shirley, Joey Cable, Jay McCain, Adam Shirley, Skyler Boatwright and Drew Tinker. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima or your favorite charity.
