Elizabeth Anderson Prather

October 18, 1911 — February 10, 2010

Elizabeth Anderson Prather, age 98 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Henry Prather; father, Thomas Marshall Anderson; mother, Mary Magdeline (Finger) Anderson; sister, Jennie Evelyn (Anderson) Blackburn; brothers, Herman Anderson and James Carl Anderson. Survivors include her son, James Marshall Prather of Maryville; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brian Todd Prather and Eisha Prather of Ithaca, New York; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jennifer Elizabeth (Prather) Meador and John Meador of Canton, North Carolina; niece and husband, Evelyn and Joe Campbell of Maryville; great niece, Marian Anderson Hays of Johnson City, Tennessee; several other cousins, nieces, nephews and great nephew and a host of friends whom she loved. She was a graduate of Friendsville High School 1928, graduate of the University of Tennessee: Undergraduate program 1953 and Masters Degree program 1957. Thirty-two hours toward Doctoral Degree program. Forty years as a Blount County elementary school teacher. Department of Human Services - Child Protective services case worker. Director of Food Stamp program - Knox County. Case worker and Director of Project L.I.V.E. - Office on Aging. Resident Manager of Broadway Towers - Maryville and taught Adult Basic Education - Knox County. Member of First United Methodist Church-Maryville. Former Sunday school teacher-youth department. Distinguished Service Award-Blount Memorial Hospital. National Society of Daughters of Union Veterans 1861-1865. Blount Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer - 32 years. 1987 “Distinguished Member Award” United Methodist Men’s Group. United Methodist Women’s School Teaching Award - Rotary International. Former Secretary of The State Welfare Retirees Association. She was a member of “The First Families of Tennessee”. A very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was proud to be a life long resident of Blount County and was blessed with a wonderful mind and loving and giving spirit. A very special thanks to Dr. Carole Long, Dr. Philip Hoffman and Dr. Bruce Roberts. Also, to the nursing staff of Blount Memorial Hospital, MICU Unit and all others who gave of their training, talents and gifts of love and compassion for the comfort of Elizabeth. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church Maryville with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. The interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church Maryville.
