Edwin James Porter

Edwin James Porter, age 95 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Shannondale of Maryville. He was born in East Brady, PA and was a 68 year resident of Maryville. He was a graduate of Grove City High School in Grove City, PA. He served in the Army Air Corp as a 1st Lieutenant and a Pilot Instructor during World War II. He was a graduate of Drexel College of Engineering in Philadelphia, PA. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville, Maryville Kiwanis Club, and was a retired engineer from ALCOA with over 30 years of service and a member of the 25 Year Club. After retirement from ALCOA he began a new 20 year career with H & R Block Tax Services and was an Enrolled Agent. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Wilmoth Humber Porter; parents, William and Zora Irwin Porter; sisters, Helen Porter Richards, Arline Porter Foulk, Evelyn Porter Holter, Eleanor Porter Ripper; brother, Charles Albert Porter; son-in-law, Anthony Gordon Rust. Survivors include his daughters, Mary Martha Porter, Melinda Anne Porter Rust; son, James Humber Porter and wife Nancy Bostock Porter; grandchildren, Allison Anne Porter and James Matthew Porter; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Donna Sellers; special caretaker, Kelli Knight. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Maryville with Rev. Catherine Nance and Rev. Dick Richards officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at the Church.
