Edward Williams, 91, and wife Wannell, 89, both died of natural causes on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Blount Memorial Hospital. After nearly 72 years of marriage, the couple had prayed that together they would quietly enter their home in Heaven to see their Lord and Savior and be reunited with many loved ones. God answered their prayer when they passed from this life into eternity within three hours of each other. While their family mourns this temporary separation, they rejoice in Gods grace and blessing and in the joy and memories the couple leave behind. Especially cherished are Edward and Wannells life-long example of faithfulness and devotion to their God and to their family. Edward and Wannell met in Maryville as neighbors on Home Avenue. He was home on furlough serving in the Army Air Corps. The sweet girl next door was hanging out clothes. He quickly asked her out for two dates, fearing someone else might be thinking of asking her too. After marrying on February 26, 1946, Edward continued to serve overseas. Upon his return in February, 1947, the couple started a home. He worked as a brick layer and later general contractor for 50 years. Wannell worked by his side until they started a family, then she was a stay-at-home Mama. They are charter members at Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and she was a Sunday School secretary. Edward and Wannell were preceded in death by parents, Claude and Ithel Williams and Kelly and Martha Foster; infant daughter, Jeanette Williams; grandchildren, Vanessa Williams and Jared Landers; and siblings and in-laws, Delbert (Helen) Williams, Willard Gene (Ann) Williams, Ruby Dixon, Ray Foster, Mary (Kenneth) Rutherford, Jimmy Stone and Craig Galloway. They are survived by their children, Ted (Janice) Williams and Diane (Bruce) Tanner; grandchildren, Josh (Amy) Landers and Sarah (Andrew) Monroe; great-grandchildren are Conner, Kaya, and Graham Landers, and Leilani and Alana Monroe; surviving siblings are, Betty Galloway, Bonita Stone, Charlotte (Harold) Kirkland, and sister-in-law, Wilma Williams; several nieces and nephews.
