Edgar Orville Redwine

Ed Redwine, 91, of the Shannondale Community in Maryville, passed away suddenly Thursday at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 24, 1920, in Sandy Hook Kentucky. He is predeceased by parents, John T. and Molly Davis Redwine, his first wife, Margaret DeBord Redwine and sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and Avery Fick. He graduated from the University of Kentucky. At the beginning of World War II, he volunteered for the Navy, and was sent to Harvard and Princeton Universities to study newly developed radar technology. He was assigned to the destroyer USS Vesole and earned the rank of Lieutenant jg as radar officer. Following the War, he worked in sales for B. F. Goodrich Corp. In 1959 he co-founded, with partner Myron Pfeifer, and served as President of Extron Corp, Knoxville, TN, which produced some of the countrys first extruded plastic profiles. In 1970 he sold the company to Amsted Inds. of Chicago and retired in 1975. Ed was an avid golfer with many golfing associations. In his later years, he also enjoyed playing pool at his beloved summer home at Grandfather Mountain, N. C, as well as at Shannondale of Maryville, TN. He enjoyed organizing lunch and dinner outings with friends, photography, and marquetry. As an expert gem faceter, he produced many beautiful gifts for friends and family. He loved passing on his faceting skill to others. Computers were a particular passion. He spent many hours on line communicating with friends, offering help with any computing problems to anyone. As a man of great generosity, he contributed monetarily and personally to the betterment of both of his communites. His greatest love was spending time with his grandsonand family. His loss is immeasurable. Survivors include his beloved wife, Maxine McMahan Redwine of Maryville, Son, Joe Redwine and wife, Donna of Knoxville, son, Steve Redwine, and wife, Jo Ann, of Knoxville, and grandson, Captain David D. Redwine, stationed at Charleston Air Force Base, SC. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Shannondale of Maryville with Rev. Dixie Lee Petrey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
