Earnest Avery Collins - Avery Collins went to his heavenly home on Friday, April 8. He was the son of Edward and Maggie Collins born on March 31, 1936 in Lenoir City, TN. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday with family and caregivers at Asbury. He was a graduate of Lenoir City High School and attended Tennessee Tech. He often hitchhiked to and from Cookeville. He worked at Yale & Town Lock Plant in Lenoir City for five years as a material planner. Avery began work at ALCOA in 1967 and retired from the company as an electrician. He was an avid sports fan. He liked golf, Smokies baseball and SEC football. He looked forward to football season and always enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Tennessee Vols. He was an enthusiastic walker and could often be seen strolling by the river in Townsend. Avery was preceded in death by his mother and dad; brother, James; and youngest son, Jeff. He leaves his wife, Beverly; sons, Mark and Michael; daughter-in-law, Becky Collins; brother, Kenneth; sisters, Joyce and Carol. A Celebration of Life will be held at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home on Saturday, April 16, at 4:00 p.m. led by Reverend Tony Collins, Broadway Baptist Church in Maryville and Reverend Richard Rudesill, Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church in Townsend. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimers Association, 1545 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921 would be appreciated. Following the service, the family asks that everyone join them at Broadway Baptist Fellowship Hall, 2329 East Broadway, Maryville, TN for refreshments.
