Dwight Ronald (Ron) Bowman

March 8, 1935 — February 12, 2024

Dwight Ronald (Ron) Bowman of Maryville, passed away Monday, February 12, with his wife of 68 years by his side. Granddaddy joyfully left this earth to live with Jesus and his beloved grandson, Gary Scott Lindsey. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Gary Lindsey, his parents Dwight and Edna Bowman.

Survivors include his wife Dora Jean (Dokie), daughters Rhonda Bauer (Jon), Janet Lindsey (Ed), and Laura Myers, granddaughters Kristi Wilson and Loren (Chase) Sliger and sons Gary and Griffin and great granddaughter Kaylee (Jason) Watts and son Brady.

Ron attended East High School and graduated from Carson Newman where he met his wife, Dokie. He then attended Wake Forest Seminary. Ron enjoyed anything outdoors and spending time with family and his church. He was a dedicated family man who was passionate for others to know Jesus. He was a very active member at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He planned hikes and outings for the 55 and Alive Group until he was unable to do so. He hiked many miles throughout the Smokies and the Rockies as well as anywhere he visited.

The family will receive friends at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church on Thursday, February 15 at 3:00 followed by a service at 4:00. Burial will be Friday at 10:00 at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. To honor Ron’s love for national parks and outdoors, his wish was for those in attendance to wear a Smoky Mountain/National Park/Hiking t-shirt and jeans to his service. No suits or ties.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ron’s name to Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes, P.O. Box 2206, Brentwood, TN 37024.
