Dr. Jack W. Oliver, (B.S. 1960, M.S., D.V.M., Ph.D.), age 73 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville. Dr. Oliver was in the fourth graduating class at Purdue’s Vet. School. He held Assistant Professorships at Colleges of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue (1969/70), Texas A&M (1970/71) and Ohio State (1972 to 1975). He has been an Associate Professor (1975 to 1982) and Professor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for 35 years (Pharmacology and Endocrinology). He currently served as the Director of Clinical Endocrinology Service at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Oliver received the following awards: Lindsey Young Professor of Veterinary Medicine-The University of Tennessee-1980-81; Amon Carter Evans Research Scholar-The University of Tennessee-1983; Outstanding Faculty Award, TVMA, 1995. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marty; parents, Helen and Levi; and brother, Phip. Survivors include his wife, Suanne Oliver; children, Dr. Jason and wife Charlotte Oliver of McMinnville, TN, Dr. Kevin Oliver of Raleigh, NC; stepchildren, Joni and Brian Jay of East Lansing, MI, James Hidbrader of Maryville, Julie Garrow of Maryville and Jeff Hidbrader of Maryville; grandchildren, Joshua and Jared Oliver of McMinnville, TN; step grandchildren, Jake, Allie and Dylan Garrow of Maryville, Lottie and Sadie Jay of East Lansing, MI, Catherine Hidbrader of NV; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Joe Dillman of Bloomington, IN, Charlene and George Foster of Gurnee, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Barbara Oliver of New Salem, IN. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Maryville First United Methodist Church followed by a 7:00 p.m. funeral service with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Weathers Funeral Home, Salem, IN. The interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:00 p.m. Saturday at Weathers Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the UT College of Veterinary Medicine designated for Endocrinology Research.
