Dr. Daniel Stevenson Goudelock. Steve Goudelock (Dr. Steve), age 86, passed away August 20, 2018, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born to James Russell Goudelock and Nancy Ferguson Goudelock, in Whitmire, SC, March 16, 1932. He was predeceased by his brother, Bill Goudelock; sisters, Ella Vee Griffin and Betty Cooper; sons, Paul Thomas, Merle Wesbrook and Daniel Stevenson, II. He is survived by wife of 33 years, Karen and stepchildren, Bill Dixon and Tracy Dixon Walker; also several grandchildren; nephews; special sister-in-law, Nancy Goudelock; daughter-in-law, Cyndi Goudelock. Steve graduated from Wofford College, the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston, then completed his residency at the University of Michigan Hospital. During his long career as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, he served as Chief of Staff at Wm. S. Hall Institute in Columbia SC during the mid seventies, Medical Director at Peninsula Hospital in Louisville, TN from 1983-1990. He also served on many local, state and national boards and was the National President of the American Society of Adolescent Psychiatry in 1982. Steve served our country as a Lt. in counter intelligence in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at the Nuclear Test Site on Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Island, and assigned to be in the plane shooting video of the testing of the H-bomb in 1952. Those shots of the infamous mushroom shaped cloud have been used for years in news clips and movies. In 1995 Steve was diagnosed with lymphoma due to radiation exposure. In his retirement, he enjoyed crossword puzzles and working on genealogy. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Knoll and the staff of Shannondale Health Care for the love, care and nurturing he was given during his stay there. Also Blount Memorial Hospital ER Dr. Hunter, Dr. Ariel, Dr. Winn and Dr.Charlton. A private interment will be held at St. Andrews Church (New Providence Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
