Dorothy Graves Mason, 89, of Alcoa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Born May 21, 1922 in Etowah, TN to the late John and Viola Bookout Graves, she was a member of Central Baptist Church Alcoa for over 60 years. Beginning her career at the Aluminum Company of America, she later retired after 22 years as secretary at Alcoa High School. She was a beautiful, gracious lady who exemplified the qualities every Christian woman should strive for in her personal life and appearance, in her family life, and within her community. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Glenda Mason Brown, and great-granddaughter, Brooke Lafollette. Survivors include her devoted husband of 68 years, William Glenn Mason of Alcoa, and daughter, Betty Jane Burris and husband, Bill of Kingsport. Grandchildren include Melissa Lafollette and Jason Brown of Maryville; Bradford Burris of North Carolina; Blake Burris and Barton Burris of Johnson City. Great-grandchildren include Olivia Lafollette, Haley Brown, and Caleb Brown. Additional family members include, brother, Chester Graves of Alcoa, beloved aunt, Ina Gilbert of Maryville; and uncle, G. B. Bookout of California. A memorial service and celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held Friday, July 29th at Central Baptist Church Alcoa at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Jason Brown and Rev. George Gilbert officiating. Friends will be received immediately following the service. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
