Dorothy French Giffin, age 89, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017, at home. Dorothy was a long-time member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James H. and Dicie Bohanan French, brothers, JB and John French and sister, Shirley Corbett. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Grinder; grandchildren, Sarah and William Grinder; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Bobby French; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Dallas Maxwell; several nieces and nephews. Dorothy taught school for 38 years before retiring from the Maryville City School System. Dorothy always said she enjoyed every day she spent in the classroom. The family would like to thank Susie McAllister, Melodie LeRette, Sandy Gordon, Angie Edwards and the Blount Memorial Hospice Nurses and Staff for their loving care and attention given to Dorothy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Her funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Stan Rushing officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to one of several Alzheimer's organizations.
