08-16-2003 SIMONIC, Donald F. of Maryville passed away Friday August 15th 2003 at St. Marys Medical Center. Donald F. Simonic, operations manager at ALCOA’s Tennessee Operations, was born in Steelton, Pennsylvania. He was a tackle on the 1955 UT football team, in 1956 he was all- OVC Gridiron 11 as a tackle at Tennessee Tech. He was a draft choice for the Baltimore Colts, but entered military service after receiving his degree. Following graduation from Tennessee Polytech Institute in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in education, Mr. Simonic served in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant- Artillery and was honorably discharged in 1959. Prior to joining Alcoa, he was a teacher and football coach at the Alcoa High school Alcoa, TN. Mr. Simonic joined Alcoa at it’s Tennessee operations in 1964 as unit supervisor - Pack/ Ship. In 1967, he moved to New Kensington, PA., as distribution supervisor. Two years later, he was named transportation coordinator in Pittsburgh. In 1970, Mr. Simonic was named fabrication superintendent at the former Alcoa Cressona (PA) works. Two years later, he was named operations manager at Adam Metal Supply, a former wholly owned Alcoa subsidiary. In 1974, Mr. Simonic returned to Tennessee where he served in several production positions, including Ingot Superintendent and Smelting/ Ingot/ Maintenance/ Procurement Manager. In 1990, Mr. Simonic was named Vice President and General Manager of Northwest Alloys Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Alcoa in Washington, and subsequently, president-Northwest Alloys, Inc. in 1991. He was named Deputy Operations Manager of Tennessee Operations in February 1992 and Operations Manager of Tennessee Operations in 1992. In April 1994 he named Manufacturing Manager of Rigid Packaging division (RPD). In this position, Mr. Simonic had operating responsibilities for both Tennessee Operations and Warrick Operations. In 1996 he became senior Consultant Operational Excellence for the Rigid Packaging Division. He held this position until his retirement with 33 years of service He was preceded in death by wife of 47 years, Mona Weaver Simonic; parents, A.R. (Tom) and Mary Lescanec Simonic. Survivors include: Sons, Michael Simonic and wife Lynne of Friendsville. Patrick Simonic and wife Jill of Roanoke, VA. Daughter, Elizabeth Watson of Orange, TX. Grandchildren, Erin and Tony Simonic, Matthew and Michael Simonic. Emily Watson. Funeral mass will be 8:00 P.M. Monday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Father Alex Waraksa officiating. A private entombment will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
