Diane Y. Niethammer

February 28, 1957 — August 8, 2024

Louisville, TN

Diane Y. Niethammer passed away on August 8th at age 67. She was born on February 28th, 1957 to George and Betty Kyle and grew up in Madisonville, Tennessee. After graduating in 1975 from Madisonville High School, she obtained her Associates degree from Tennessee Wesleyan and completed Radiation Technology school through Blount Memorial Hospital.

Throughout her career at Blount Memorial Hospital she continued her education and obtained certifications in ultrasonography and mammography. While working at Blount Memorial Hospital, she met her future husband, John Niethammer, of Maryville, TN. Diane and John moved to Louisville, TN after they got married in August of 2008.

Diane was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church, where she loved worshipping the Lord. She cried at each and every song that was played on Sunday mornings. She would reach for the tissue as soon as the first note was played. Diane’s faith was of the most importance in her life. She looked forward to her bible fellowship class and weekly bible study.

Diane was an incredible wife, mother, and grandmother. Diane is survived by her husband of 16 years; John G. Niethammer III. When speaking about Diane, John said he was never happier than his marriage with Diane and that she was the perfect match for him. She most loved spending time with John cheering on her beloved Tennessee Volunteers.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents. Diane is survived by her brother Johnny Kyle; children Chelsea Braswell (John Mark), Gabe Bivens (Mariah), Michelle Large (Chris), Matthew Niethammer (Amanda), Meredith Buckner (Josh), and nine grandchildren.

Diane was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in February 2022. Throughout her fight against cancer there are many people we would like to thank: Dr. McCarty, Dr. Botros, Dr. Naramore, and their staff. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at MD Anderson, the staff of Care Around the Block, and lastly, the staff at the Nursing Center at Little Creek.

Diane was a wonderful cook, but only if she had a recipe. She was an avid notetaker in her cookbooks, often noting the names of family members who most enjoyed the meal, as well as how many times she needed to increase the recipe in order to feed her large family.

Diane loved walking, especially on the beach. She would disappear for hours while vacationing in Hilton Head. Diane loved reading, and often finished multiple books in a week.

Diane loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. They will most remember her as a loving, kind, sweet, and sometimes sassy woman. Diane’s smile and laugh will be missed most of all.
