Dewey Paton Simpson, a 34 year resident of Maryville, died March 31, 2014 at the Kindred Center. Mr. Simpson was born to William David and Mamie C. Young Simpson on November 18, 1925. He was one of 8 children born and raised in the Burt Community of Cannon County, Tennessee. Mr. Simpson grew up on a working farm and later graduated with a BS Degree in Agriculture and Biology from Middle Tennessee State University. He was retired from the USDA-Soil Conservation Service after 42 years of federal service. He was also an Army Veteran with service during World War II. He was a member of the Kiwanis of Alcoa, past Board Member of the Blount County Children's Home, avid hiker, and involved in numerous community conservation projects including the early days of the recycling program in Maryville. He assisted many farmers and landowners to apply conservation on their land during his 34 year tenure as District Conservationist for Blount County. His favorite hobby was his daily walks with his beloved pets in local parks. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gertraud Kapp Simpson, and three children; Victor and wife Harriett, Steven and wife Mary Jo, and Barbara and husband Ned. There are also 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers William of Fayetteville, TN and Donald (Leola) of Bradyville, TN; sisters Lois (Bob Curlee) of Tullahoma, TN, Edna (Roy Taylor) of Hunstville, AL, Marie (James Prater) of Woodbury, TN and sister-in-law Mary K. Adams. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as wonderful friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by brothers Everett of Murfreesboro, TN and Arliss of Williamsburg, KY, sisters-in-law, Wilma Simpson, Rose Simpson, and brother-in-law, Sid Adams. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel. The entombment will follow at Grandview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family request no flowers.
