Deborah Jean Barnes Giere

July 23, 1958 — November 1, 2011

Deborah Jean (Barnes) Giere, July 23, 1958 - November 1, 2011 Deborah was a loving wife of 26 years to Michael E. Giere and a devoted Mother to Jeffrey Giere and Angela Giere. She was born in El Paso, TX to Elizabeth Ann Thompson Barnes and Samuel T. Barnes, Jr. and later became a step-daughter to Penny (Velma) Barnes, College Park, FL. Siblings include Samuel Barnes; Jim Barnes; and Diane Barnes. Step-brother, David Rose, and step-sisters, Rebecca Hurley, Elaine Barnes and Debbie Irvine. Deborah’s family moved from TX to Central FL when she was 4 and continued moving frequently, attending 15 different schools. Deborah started working at the age of 16 at J.C. Penney’s as a parts clerk and eventually worked 8 years as a highly-trained cocktail waitress at Lily Marlene’s, a five-star restaurant at Church St. Station in Orlando, at the time the 4th largest tourist attraction in Central FL. After marrying Michael in 1985 Deborah worked at the attorney offices of Swann & Haddock; Barrett, Chapman & Rhuda and later Inland Container Co. After moving to TN in 1998, she dedicatedly worked as an Account Analyst with Standard Aero Alliance for 13 years, during which she acquired a 2 yr. Finance degree at Pellissippi State Community College. Deborah was active in the First United Methodist Church of Maryville and volunteering whenever and wherever the need arose; Welcome Table, Witness Team, First Responders, Collection deposits, Youth dinners, Trunk & Treat, Fellowship dinner linen services, etc. Never in the spotlight but always on stage! Deborah had a few major loves in her life which kept her continuously happy and always optimistic. Several of these were her children and their friends, sunny days, any beach with sand, a good book, lions, the colors yellow & orange, blooming flowers, convertibles and a clean house! Deborah has been an inspiration to many as a loving mother, a devoted wife, a blessed sister and a true and caring friend! She will be greatly missed. Services will be held November 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of Maryville, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803.
