David Michael Clapp

Maryville, TN – David Michael Clapp, 75, of Maryville, TN (formerly of Powell, TN) died surrounded by his family at his home on May 9, 2024.  Born on July 9, 1948, in Jonesborough, TN, later adopted by Hollis and Helen Clapp of Knoxville.  David accepted Christ, his Lord and Savior, on May 21, 1967, at Fountain Park Baptist Church, where he met his wife, Margaret.  They were married on June 4, 1977, and went on to have two beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Rachel.  David preached the gospel throughout his adult life, leading many people to the Lord.   He retired from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department after serving 35 years as a deputy.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Helen Clapp, and his beloved wife Margaret.

David is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Brad) Dyer; Rachel (Wes) Thompson; grandchildren Madelyn and Roxie, step-grandchildren Graham and Adeline, sister Saundra (Brian) Boley, cousin Rachel (David) Lockard, and several siblings and cousins.

David thanked God for the life He let him live and for all the forgiveness.  He also wished to thank his daughters for all the help they gave him through the years, and his sons-in-law for all their help through his illnesses.  He wanted his granddaughters to know he is really going to miss them.  He gave thanks for his Sunday school class at Dotson Memorial Baptist Church for all their prayers and visits when he was unable to attend.  He also wanted to thank Ken and Shirley Holbert, who have been his prayer partners and dear friends for over 50 years.

Graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery, 7212 Central Avenue Pike, Knoxville, TN 37849, on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
