Darrell K. (D.K.) Smith

February 21, 1924 — April 25, 2006

SMITH, Darrell (D.K.), born February 21, 1924, passed away on April 25, 2006. He was born and raised in Mansfield, OH. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, his college education at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH was interrupted by the War. He enlisted in the Navy Sea Bee’s, fought in the “Pacific Theatre”, and was awarded a Purple Heart. Following his stint with the service, he graduated from Stetson University, DeLand, FL, with a B. S. Degree in Business Administration. In 1948, he married Helen Frances McCoy of DeLand, FL, and was hired by the J. C. Penney Company. He served them his entire career in Store Management doing what he liked to do best...working with and developing people. In the many Towns and States where he served The Penney Company, he was active in such Civic Organizations as Cosmic, Rotary, and Lions Clubs. He served on the Board of Stewards of the Methodist Church. He was the District Manager of the Boy Scouts of America, and was active in the local Chamber of Commerce and Merchant Associations. He is succeeded by his brother, Dean J. Smith of Atlanta, GA and his three children...two daughters, Sharron Palmore of Birmingham, AL and Julia Hart of Marietta, GA and a son, Darrell Kay Smith, Jr. of Sebring, FL. A reception, followed by a memorial service, will be held in his honor on Friday, April 28 from 2-3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church of Maryville, 804 Montvale Station Road, with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating.
