Ross, Dale McCollum, age 74 of Maryville, died in his home on Thursday, August 28, 2008, after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lila Rose (McCollum) Ross (of Greenback), and his grandson, Clay Lyman. Survivors include, Pat Ross, his wife of 50 years; children and grandchildren: Laura Ross (husband Dwight Lyman); daughters, Halley and Maia, Julia Ross; Jeff Ross (wife Jennifer); sons Luke, Ben, and Sam; Leanne Ross (husband Isidor Farash); daughters, Emma; Susan Ross (husband Pete Jerkins); sons, Kyle; Jon Ross (wife Tonja Fjell); and Rebecca Jordan (husband Joshua);son, Jeremiah. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Ross (wife Evelyn). Born in 1933, Dale lived his entire life in Maryville. After graduation from Maryville High School in 1951, he served in the Navy from 1952-1954. He graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1956. He was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Maryville, where he sang with the “Morning Glory†Chorus. In 1963, he opened Dale’s Home Center, a furniture store that he ran for over 30 years. He was known for his local radio program, “Dale’s Doings.†Dale was a member of the Foothills Striders, the Toastmasters International, and he spoke in lay witness missions in East Tennessee. He did volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, the Appalachian Service Project, and in the Dominican Republic. Funeral service is to be held on Sunday, August 31, at First United Methodist Church in Maryville at 2:00 p.m., with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. The Receiving of Friends to follow. For the interment, friends should meet at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville on Tuesday, September 2, at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at their convenience at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Pall Bearers are Ray Pack, Dennis Raines, Ben Rauhuff, John (Rocky) Rochelle, Boyce Smith, Kelly Thomas, and Oliver (Buzz) Thomas.
