Dale Allen Myers

Dale Allen Myers, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011. He was born on January 5, 1941, in Fordyce, AR. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Maryville. He attended Hendrix College in Arkansas (BA) and the University of Florida (MA in American Literature, PhD in linguistics). In the course of his career, he taught at Mississippi State University, Lebanese University (Beirut), Teacher’s College Columbia, American University in Cairo, American University in Beirut, University of Northern Iowa and University of Tennessee (Knoxville). From 1978-2002, he was the Director of the English Language Institute at UTK. Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his father and mother, David and Mary Myers; brother, Jerry Myers; sister, Reba Myers Christian. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Penny Myers; son, Michael Gavin Myers; daughter, Moya Myers Crouch; son-in-law, Jason Crouch; granddaughter, Julia Renae Crouch; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Peters, Mary Nell Rhodes; brother-in-law, Sam Peters; nieces, Cathy Cope, Cindy Shirley; nephews, Ron Myers, Tony Christian; godson, Ian Sudderth; goddaughter, Margaret Sudderth; special friends, Bob and Stella Sudderth. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Steve Moser officiating. The interment will follow in the garden at St. Andrews. The family will receive friends at the Church after the service in the Great Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Saint Andrews Episcopal Church Outreach Ministries, 314 W.
