D. L. Lovingood, Jr., 81 of Alcoa, died May 24, 2012 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Born October 20, 1930 in Maryville, TN, he served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married LaGretta Shields on December 1, 1956 in Chalmette, Louisiana and was a Graduate of Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana (1960). He worked for Central Illinois Public Service (CIPS) for 32 years in Mattoon and Effingham Illinois, was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) service organizations. He was very proud to have served as the Post Commander for the American Legion Post 120 in Effingham, Illinois. While in Effingham he was also active with the Boy Scouts, Rotary International, and Chamber of Commerce. Preceded in death by his parents, Dwight & Evelyn Lovingood; sisters, Wilma Ray & Fran Carroll. Survived by his wife, LaGretta Lovingood; son, Mark Lovingood & wife Joli of Elkridge, MD; daughter, DeEtta Prose & husband Greg of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Alexa Prose and Madison Prose; brother, James Lovingood; sisters, Mary Ernestine Foster & Katherine Parker. In lieu of flowers, we want people to donate to Honor Flight Network or Wounded Warrior Project.
