Cynthia “Cindy” Compton Mosher, 83, died Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in Maryville, Tennessee, with her three sons and members of their families by her bedside.
Cindy was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 22, 1936, the daughter of Walter Ames Compton and Phoebe Emerson. After WWII ended, the family moved to their permanent home in Elkhart, Indiana. Cindy graduated from Elkhart High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Katharine Gibbs College in Boston. In June of 1958 she married David K. Mosher, whose military service would see them living in several locations until settling in the Atlanta area in 1961. Atlanta continued to be her home for over fifty years, until she moved to Tennessee in 2016.
With a career as an administrative assistant that included working for the Lt. Governor of Massachusetts, and Emory University in Atlanta, Cindy’s real calling and passion in life was in the creative realm. A talented artist, pianist, and writer, Cindy was particularly gifted in the visual arts. Throughout her adult life she created a multitude of exceptional oil paintings, watercolors, and sketches. Her love of art and music was matched only by her joy of being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Cindy was preceded in death by her sister Joan, her brothers Walter and Gordon, and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Phoebe; her children, John (Diana), Michael, and Steven (Kirsten); and her nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held for Cindy at a future date. For those wishing to remember Cindy, the family suggests memorial donations be made to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).
