Colonel Charles J. Hendricks passed away March 5, 2009. Born in Maryville, TN, he joined the U. S. Air Force at age seventeen, served his country in World War II and Korea as a fighter pilot and in Vietnam training pilots. He retired April 1, 1965 after 24 years of military service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ruby Hendricks; wife, Nona Hendricks; son, Randy Hendricks. Surviving family members include wife, Virginia Hammontree Hendricks; daughters, Catherine Thornton, Ann Elkins, Melinda Brookshire and son, Kim Hendricks; brother, Bud Hendricks; sister, Betty Johnson both of Florida; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home on Saturday at 1:15 p.m to proceed to Carpenters Campground United Methodist Church for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service with son-in-law, Lowell Thornton officiating.
