Clyde Joseph (Joe) Black, age 77 passed away on July 17, 2023, in Maryville, Tennessee after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Joe served as a pastor in both the Southern Methodist and the United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He was a wonderful preacher in the pulpit, a remarkable biblical teacher, active in helping with the children and youth in the church, and at times involved in the worship music as well. He felt his calling to be a preacher at a young age and was dedicated to that service for as long as he was able. Joe was a gifted piano player and used his talent with the keys to entertain, bring joy and lead worship much to the delight of all who listened. Joe was quite a skilled cook in the kitchen and enjoyed hosting his family for dinners. Preceded in death by his loving parents George and Ruth Black.
His surviving family members include son David Black, daughters and sons-in-law Dena and Ken Oakes, Kristen and Craig Dutton. Grandchildren; Kennedy Oakes, Joshua Oakes, Elijah Black, Josiah Black, Nathaniel Dutton and Lily Dutton. Brother and sister-in-law Bob and Brenda Black, sister and brother-in-law Becky and Dave Hutton and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday July 21, 2023, at McCammon Ammons Click Funeral Home in Maryville, Tennessee. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm service to follow at 7:00. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Fountain City on Saturday July 22, 2023, at 11:00.
