IRWIN, Clifford Edward, age 74 of Maryville, passed away Saturday August 28, 2004 at his home. He was a graduate of Everett High School, Hiwassee College, Maryville College and The University of Tennessee. After graduating from school he went on to become an educator for 36 years. He was also a coach at Lanier, Everett and Heritage High Schools. He was an avid sportsman and also worked as an official with Parks and Recreation, Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association and the NCAA. His time was also spent as an active member and negotiator with the Blount County Education Association and the Tennessee Education Association. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Adams Irwin; father, William Lee Irwin; mother, Helen Beatrice Irwin; infant brother, William Irwin; brother, James Irwin. Survivors include: daughters, Carol Ann Poff of Maryville, Cathryn E. Irwin of Knoxville, and Amelia Ann Irwin; son and daughter-in-law, Clifford Edward Irwin, II and Mary of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Irwin McCurdy and Brian of Phoenix, AZ; sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Don Chambers of Morrow, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Anna C. Irwin of Maryville; brother-in-law, Robert G. (Sam) Adams of Sevierville; grandchildren, Charity Patterson and husband David, and Brandon White and wife Dawn; great-grandchildren, Sean, Tiffany and Jeremy Patterson, and Andrew White. Many nieces, nephews and extraordinary friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 1 at 8 p.m. in McCammon-Ammons-Click Chapel with Dr. Mark Grubb officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. An interment service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Blount Memorial Hospital Cancer Center c/o The Blount Memorial Foundation.
