Charlotte L. Wells of Maryville, Tennessee passed peacefully out of this life on February 26, 2019, at the Cookeville, Tennessee home where she had lived the last 9 years with her eldest son Michael Wells and her beloved daughter-in-law Sabrina Wells. Charlotte suffered for 14 years from Alzheimers. After moving to Cookeville in 2010, she was under the care of Sabrina, who devoted herself with loving, expert skill to Charlottes happiness and well-being. Charlotte loved and knew she was loved, and she smiled and laughed most every day. Charlotte and Sabrinas story of love is like that of Naomi and Ruth of the Bible. She was born Charlotte Louise McCammon on March 16, 1932, in Loudon County, Tennessee, the first of five children of the late Houston McCammon and Hattie Roberts McCammon. The family spent most of their years on a small farm on Tomotley Road in Maryville, not far from the Little Tennessee river, where Charlotte helped her mother care for her family. The McCammons were not well off, and Charlotte had to carry water for her family up a long steep hill from a spring. Charlotte was baptized into the Christian faith when she was young. Being a good person was natural and straightforward for her, and she never had to struggle in that. Sometimes when she spoke of her Lord she would say, Christ will come again… Charlotte was a woman of extraordinary physical beauty, but seemed unaffected by it. Instead, it was her sweet attitude and spirit that defined her. Dignity, class, and modesty were her hallmarks. She loved people and enjoyed them. In 2006, Charlotte was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, John Harold Wells of Maryville, a naval veteran of WWII. The two had many good years at their home on Tomotley Road in Maryville, where their lives centered on family and friends. They enjoyed hosting gatherings for bonfires and meals, and liked to go boating with others on the Tellico lake. They were blessed. In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte was proceeded in death by her brothers Ralph and Ray McCammon of Maryville. Along with Michael and Sabrina, Charlotte is survived by her daughter Sonja Wells-Slawson, (Tom) her son Chris Wells (Debbie), grandchildren Zina, Shane, and Megan, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Charlotte is also survived by her sister Dorothy McCammon Cogburn and her husband James Cogburn; and her brother Ken McCammon, all of Maryville. For those of us who love Charlotte and are broken-hearted, we take comfort in our faith that we shall see her again in the Kingdom of Heaven. We love you with all our hearts, Mother. It is impossible that you could have been a more beautiful daughter, sister, and mother than what you were. We thank our Lord for you, and that our lives were joined to yours. For the rest of our lives we will long for the day we see you in Paradise. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Dwight Henry officiating. The interment will be immediately following at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Vonore, TN.
