Charles Young hastened off to glory to meet his family who have gone on to glory and he will linger near the Eastern Gate for the rest of his family who are waiting on him.
Charles Thomas Young, eighty-one (81), passed peacefully in his home on September 30, 2023 with his loving, caregiving wife, Donna, by his side. Charles suffered with Parkinson’s disease for ten years. He was born at home on Farris Road in Maryville, TN. As a younger boy, he loved squirrel hunting in the Trotter Woods (now the Harrison Rock Quarry) and fishing with his dad and brothers. He attended Forest Hill Elementary School and was a 1960 graduate of Everett High School. He worked at the old Byrne Drug store in downtown Maryville and then worked for Eastern State Hospital before enlisting in the United States Navy. His basic training was at Naval Station Great Lakes, located near North Chicago, IL, followed by most of his service being in Newfoundland and then some in Florida. After his 3 ½ years in the Navy, Charles returned home to work at Blount National Bank before buying/managing Eunice’s Beauty Salon. He then was employed at Panasonic until retirement.
Charles loved the Lord and church was a huge part of his life. He used his beautiful singing voice for the Lord until he lost his voice. He was a longtime choir director at Alcoa-Maryville Church of God and sang with several trios and groups. He attended Green Meadow Church of God for 34 years.
His daughter, Yulonda, was the apple of his eye and will always be daddy’s girl. He was the proud dad of Kevin Young, lead singer for the Christian band Disciple. His golden years were complimented by his grandchildren’s’ endeavors, whether it be basketball, baseball, soccer, or golf. These activities brought him great joy with an immediate smile from ear to ear. He loved to play golf! His most memorable time was when he attended The Masters golf tournament. Charles always had a smile for everyone and enjoyed telling jokes.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, James Esco and Della Mae Young, siblings Pauline (Ray) Millsaps, Juanita (Lonnie) Cope, Lazell Chapman, Johnnie (Milburn) Waters, Dewey (JoAnn) Young, Carolyn (Herman) Fleming, Don (Cindy) Young, and Rev.
