Charles M. Bryan, age 84 of Maryville, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Tennova Hospice in Halls. Born in Chattanooga, he was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Jessie Bryan, and brothers Morris and Edward. The Rev. Dr. Bryan was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and Emory University (M.Div and D.Min). He served United Methodist congregations beginning in Ducktown in 1950 and retiring from Gatlinburg in 1991. Following retirement, he served Methodist parishes in Hampstead, England for two years. An active Rotarian, Dr. Bryan was also proud of his tenure as chair of the Blount County Ecumenical Council. He married the former Margaret Anne Drake in 1955, who succeeds him along with two daughters, Nancy Bryan and Katherine (Robert) Burns. He is also succeeded by five grandchildren (Katharine, Julianna, and Bryan Parks, Rowan and Claire Derry) and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at McCammon-Ammons-Click on Thursday, September 20 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. The funeral will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church in Maryville on Friday, September 21 at 10:00 am with burial following at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Latvia in Mission Together program of the Maryville District of the United Methodist Church, a reflection of the Bryans experiences traveling in Latvia and Estonia.
