Charles F. Coatney, Jr., age 94 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018. Preceded in death by siblings Joe Coatney, Inez Jackson, Edith Sullivan, and G.W. Coatney and his daughter Carolyn Coatney, great great grandchildren, twins Kayson and Kaine Bruhn. Survived by wife of 71 years, Christine S.Coatney, daughter, Cathy Nyein Rhodes (Tim) and grandchildren Christie Brady ( David), Julie Goldstein (Michael) and Zack Nyein ( Michael); great grandchildren, Allen Brady (Miranda), Darby and Sydney Alexander, and Whitley Goldstein; sister-in-law, Wanda Coatney and nephews, Tommy Coatney and Shayne Sullivan; special neighbors, Bill Rickman and Clarence Hedrick. Charles was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was the Juvenile Officer of Blount County as well as the Sheriff of Blount County during the 1970's hiring the first female deputy and first African American deputy. Charles will be remembered fondly for his laughter, concern, kindness and philanthropy for special organizations. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with the service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Zack Nyein officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Clarks Grove Cemetery for the interment service. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Remote Area Medical (RAM).
