M.SGT. (Ret.) Charles E. (Sharkey) Cox, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cox was born September 1, 1925, was a member of Middlesettlements United Methodist Church, was retired from the Tennessee Air National Guard 134th Refueling Wing and was a World War II Navy Veteran. A graduate of Friendsville High School, he was a member of the 1943 basketball team that played in the State Championship. He played and loved sports. He was preceded in death by parents, Owen and Edna Cox and brothers, Jack G. Cox and Frank B. Cox. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty A. Cox; brother, John A. Cox; daughter, Bridget Jenkins; son and daughter-in-law, LTC (Ret.) Kim and Betsy Cox all of Maryville; grandchildren, Holly (Brian) Child of Knoxville, Courtney (T.J.) Hammontree of Louisville, Katie (Seth) Sumner of Clifton, TN, and A1C Charlie Cox of Maryville; great grandchildren, Conner Landers, Abby Hammontree, Sarah Child and Emily Child; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Melba and Jack Bruce, Genny and Tom Begley, Roma and Melvin Bridges, Don and Billie Baxter, Betty Baxter. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Black and Rev. Rex Rogers officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Middlesettlements Cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
