Charles Edward Walker

May 10, 1905 — January 20, 2002

WALKER, Charles Ed, age 96 of Maryville, died Sunday, January 20, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Esther Crass Walker. He was the son of the late Calvin (Cal) Francis Walker and Susan M. Abbott Walker. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mamie L. Wyrick. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 83 years where he served as a Deacon for several years, he wrote and published the history of the Church and served on several Church committees over his life span. He retired from the Daily Times in 1970 where he worked in the Composing Department. He was a prolific cartoonist and writer of short stories which were published in several publications including his book, “A Collection of Short Stories and Articles”. He joined the Lone Scouts of America in 1920 and was awarded the Bronze Merit Medal. He was publisher of “Southern Scout” and co-publisher of Progressive Youth. Survivors include nephew and wife, Ralph M. and Janet Crass of Johnson City; niece and husband, Nancy Ellen and Ron Sizemore of Oliver Springs; nephew S. S. Crass, Jr. and wife Bobbie of Oliver Springs; nieces, Mary Hannah Wilson of New Mexico and Myrtle (Lady Bug) Watson of Texas; also several cousins. Close friends were Tommy and Linda Keeble, Larry and Joann Harris and cousin, Loa Kendrick. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Danny Davis and Rev. Ralph Crass officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville 982-6812
