Catherine Louise Rugg died on March 19, 2025 in Maryville, Tennessee. She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up the second of four girls. Her parents and sisters: Betsy, Elaine, and Christine became loved ones throughout her lifetime. Cathy graduated from Knoxville's Central High School in 1976. She enjoyed drawing, painting, photography, movies, playing tennis, and alpine skiing. She graduated from Centre College, Danville, Kentucky in 1980. After college, Cathy moved to California where she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Southern California.


She was a passionate world traveler, visiting over 40 countries, deeply intrigued with new cultures, artifacts, and architecture. The last 15 years of her pharmacy career she enjoyed living in The Land of Enchantment in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Towards the end of her life, Cathy took the time to write and publish a novel: "My Journey Back to Heaven, Gabriel's Story", by C. L. Rugg. As Cathy's health declined, she moved back to Tennessee to be closer to family.

Cathy was preceded in death by her loving parents Philip James Rugg and Patricia Christine (Smith) Rugg. Cathy leaves behind her sisters, their husbands, and their children: Betsy (Dean) Jagels with Chrstopher (Alina) and Diane Jagels; Elaine (Eric) Nicol with Jared and Evan (Zoe) Nicol; Christine (Jeff) Curtis and children Amanda Munns (Irving) Brea and Tucker (Kelly) Munns. Cathy also leaves 3 grand nieces and 2 grand nephews: Lua, Iago, and Lidia Brea and Carson and Vivian Munns.The family will hold a private gathering to honor Cathy's life. Condolences may be left at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville, Tennessee.
